Immunodeficiency diseases

PRIMARY IMMUNODEFICIENCIES : (GENETIC)

1) B-cell defects
(Low levels of B cells & antibodies)
- agammaglobulinemia
- hypogammaglobulinemia
- selective immunoglobulin deficiency

2) T-cell defects
(Lack of all class of T cells)
- thymus aplasia (Di-george syndrome)
- chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis

3) Combined B cell & T cell defects
( lack or abnormal lymphoid stem cells)
- severe combined immune deficiency SCID
- X- SCIDI due to an interleukin defect
- adenosine deaminase deficiency (ADA def)
- ataxia telengectasia
- wiskott-aldrich syndrome

4) Phagocytes defects
- chediak-higashi disease
- chronic granulomatous disease of children
- lack of surface adhesion molecule

5) Complement defects
- one of C complement def
- hereditary angioedema
- associated with rheumatid disease

SECONDARY IMMUNODEFICIENCIES : (ACQUIRED)

1) Natural causes
- infection like AIDS
- cancer
- pregnancy
- aging
- stress
- nutrition deficiency

2) Immunosuppresive agents
- irradiation
- removal of spleen
- steroids
- severe burns
- drugs to treat graft rejection & cancers
